Iran nuclear program. Tougher US/UN sanctions. The road back to Cuba or to Iraq ?
Tougher sanctions - Killing agent - Social destroyer - Catastrophic scenario - Changing the game - Muslim World - Short term victory - Susan Rice - Erdogan - Ultimatum - Long lasting peace - Beijing

50 years after that catastrophic scenario, America had elected a new President over the promise of changing the game in the world. After an attempt to reach out to the Muslim World from the new President Obama, "Change" is looking more of the same American classical politics. This time, we have been told that it is on behalf of the non nuclear proliferation Treaty.
The surprising news is China and Russia backing the draft of sanctions. More surprising is the contents of the draft : arms and financial embargos. Not so far, the United States equiped Taïwan with arms prompting Beijing anger. At that time, Beijing was so furious with the Taïwan/US arms deal that China was reluctant on backing any further sanctions on Iran.
In between, a nuclear summit was hosted by the United States from 12 to 13 April in Washington. Iran was persona non grata at that summit. On the beginning of May, President Ahmadinejad of Iran was able to travel to America to reiterate in the UN nuclear summit that its nuclear program was intended to civil purposes. Which Secretary of States, Hillary Clinton is still denying strongly saying that Iran has failed so far to prove its good will to the IAEA - International Atomic Energy Agency. Especially she is insisting on shipping Iran uranium abroad for enrichment.
"Words must mean something" (President Obama)
That’s what President Lula of Brazil and Erdogan of Turkey traveled to Iran for. The travel resulted in a deal with Iran engaging to send its low enriched uranium to Turkey. However, Iran keeps the right to go on with its own enrichment plants. The group of Vienna (US, France, Russia and IAEA -) has not been convinced and the security council "the terror council" as President Khadafi named it, reconvened Tuesday’s night in order to take and implement sanctions. President Obama is used to say "Words must mean something".
In a public statement Tuesday, Susan Rice, US Ambassador at the UN, provided the press with a summary of the talks and the contents of the sanctions. Starting from the day of their implementation which is imminent, all Iran’s activities related to its nuclear programme are under international control ; either financial, arms equipment or any deal of any sort related to nuclear activities. Ships would be checked to avoid and prevent arms smuggling. Financials activities of the "Supreme Guard" are also under scrutiny. Monitors will be affected on that special control.
While injustice is still the leading rule of the world, no one should really expect a long lasting peace
Question to Susan Rice after she detailed the agenda of the security council. Why is it that you asked Iran to send its uranium abroad for enrichment and now that Iran has commited to do so, why are sanctions about ?
The fact is if you start asking why, then we’ll be forced to go back to Cuba’s embargo and to Irak’s invasion in 2003. Why ? We’ll just leave it here and engage everyone to provide his own answers. Why Iran is today’s Cuba ? For reducing proliferation of nuclear weapons ? Really ?
History had provided us with some lessons. One of them is that you may win by strenght. But, at the end of the day, this is a short term victory. Injustice fuel anger and bitterness, kind of feeling that hits back, sooner or later. While injustice is still the leading rule of the world, no one should really expect a long lasting peace.
The good news is Susan Rice saying "the door is still open for Iran to come back to the IAEA requirements". With sanctions hanging on the head of Iran, is it good news or ultimatum ?
